there are shadows dancing at the back of my mind. cackling, laughing, hideous sounds. one waltzes up to me and shows me the tattoo on the back of his neck. he shows me the things i've lost and the things that i've said. another one does a tango and slides to my side, she shows me the tattoo on her forehead which had the things that i should've said to you. then she jumps away and i lose sight of her, she fades into the darkness, a shadow against a black wall.
all of a sudden, a light shines through, cutting across the wall. it's yellow beam is obscenely bright, and the shadows, they laugh louder, they scream in delight. another ray of psychedelic red pierces through the beam of yellow, casting a creepy red glow over the wall. the shadows danced across the bloody wall, their black bodies starting to drip a ghastly crimson.
green lights and blue lights join in the buffet, each beam painting the shadows yet another colour. colour after colour, the lights flooded the wall, each one meaning to wipe out the shadows. but the shadows merely laughed and danced even more wildly, flaying their arms from side to side, twirling and spinning and jumping with glee.
purple, pink, orange, indigo, violet, fuschia, lime green, cyan, magenta, every shade and every hue imaginable shone through from nowhere and joined the mad scramble to colour the shadows.
she put down the kaleidoscope she was holding and blinked a couple of times, letting her eyes get used to the light again. she looked at the playground before her, and laughed at the dancing children. humming along as they sang "ring a round of posies", running around in aimless circles.
she picked up her books and turned to leave, only to have the gateway blocked by a dog chasing its tail. she hurled the kaleidoscope at the dog, trying to make it leave. the dog grabbed the kaleidoscope, tearing it apart and the psychedelic beads fell out of the tube, colouring the grass a wide array of colours.
having distracted the dog which was chasing its own tail, she swiftly left the playground, leaving the dog to choke on the beads it tried to swallow.
